About

What Typing.chat is, why it exists, and the principles behind how it works.

The Idea

Typing.chat is a minimalist typing trainer designed for people who want to practice with focus and without distraction. No accounts, no leaderboards, no gamified clutter, and no unnecessary friction — just a clean environment built around typing itself.

The experience is intentionally simple: open the site, start typing, improve over time.

Why Typing.chat Exists

Many modern typing platforms have evolved into large ecosystems filled with profiles, achievements, social features, advertisements, and premium upsells. While those features may serve some users, they often come at the cost of speed, clarity, and focus.

Typing.chat was created with a different philosophy.

The goal is to provide the fastest possible path from wanting to practice to actually practicing. Every design decision prioritises responsiveness, simplicity, and uninterrupted flow.

The interface stays out of the way so your attention can remain on the words.

How It Works

Each typing test generates a random sequence of words selected from a frequency-weighted word bank for the chosen language. Commonly used words appear more often, allowing results to better reflect practical typing fluency rather than memorisation of fixed word sets.

Typing.chat measures key metrics including:

  • Words per minute (WPM)
  • Accuracy
  • Consistency
  • Test history

All typing results and personal progress history are stored locally within your browser.

Languages

Typing.chat currently supports:

  • English
  • Bangla
  • Portuguese
  • Indonesian
  • German
  • French
  • Spanish

Additional languages are planned for future releases.

Each language includes its own carefully curated word bank and proper Unicode grapheme handling where required, ensuring accurate behaviour across different writing systems and scripts.

Privacy

Typing.chat is designed to keep the experience lightweight, transparent, and respectful of user privacy.

The site uses Google Analytics to understand general traffic patterns, improve performance, detect abuse, and maintain the platform. This may include information such as browser type, device information, approximate region, visited pages, and IP-related analytics data processed by Google.

Typing performance data such as WPM, accuracy, and test history remains stored locally in your browser and is not tied to personal accounts.

Typing.chat does not require registration and does not sell personal data to third parties.

Additional details are available in the Privacy Policy.

Built for Speed

Typing.chat is built using Next.js and deployed as a static export for performance and reliability. Fonts are self-hosted, and external runtime dependencies are intentionally minimised to keep the experience fast and responsive.

The result is a lightweight application focused entirely on the typing experience.
